Allergic reactions: Diphenhydramine is used to relieve symptoms of hay fever, allergic rhinitis, and other allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itching, runny nose, and itchy or watery eyes. Cold symptoms: It may also help alleviate sneezing and runny nose associated with colds. Motion sickness: It is used to prevent and treat nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by motion sickness. Insomnia: Because of its sedative effect, diphenhydramine is sometimes used to treat short-term sleep difficulties or insomnia. Cough: It is occasionally used as a cough suppressant due to its ability to block histamine and reduce throat irritation.
